The house of Mirakhmad Khan (Khan-Evi)
This fine example of oriental architecture has adorned the center of Lankaran since 1913. It is noteworthy that the architects of the building were French, which did not prevent the use of all the skill and beauty of eastern architecture in its construction. Khan-Evi was built on three floors and became the first multistory city building. The history of the khan’s house is quite interesting and eventful. Mirakhmad Khan ordered to build a palace of love for his wife Tugra, in honor of her victory in the contest beauties of Transcaucasia. After the revolution, the building was nationalized, and the fate of its inhabitants was tragic. Today, the Lankaran State Museum of Local History is located in Khan-Evi, which has collected more than thousand exhibits related to the history of the region in its funds.
The lighthouse tower is, in fact, part of the Lankaran fortress and was built simultaneously with all the fortifications. During the Russian Empire, the tower was completed and began to be used as a beacon. More than a hundred years have passed, but the lighthouse still operates today. The kerosene lantern has been replaced with modern equipment, through which sailors of the Caspian expanses build their own ships’ courses. At the top of the tower lighthouse is equipped with an observation deck, from which beautiful panoramas are opened.
